Towards a Gender Sensitive Media and Information Literacy

The Gender-ED project partners are excited to introduce the MOOC entitled “Towards a gender sensitive Media and Information Literacy." This free online course is tailored for journalists, artists, media and information literacy (MIL) educators, activists, media professionals, gender experts, and researchers aiming to develop expertise in gender-sensitive practices, media analysis, and inclusive communication.

  • It runs from 1/4/2025 to 31/5/2025

    Participants should have:

    • Intermediate English skills.
    • A commitment to dedicating 10 hours per week.
  • The course offers 24/7 access to video lectures, reading materials, and interactive forums for peer and tutor collaboration.

MOOC Structure and Content

This course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge needed to critically engage with gender representation in media and contribute to gender equality through media literacy.

The course features:

  • High-quality curricula developed by experts in gender studies and media literacy.
  • 4 modules exploring key themes, such as gender-sensitive communication, inclusive media practices, and combating gender bias.
  • A flexible, self-paced schedule requiring a 10-hour weekly commitment.
  • Networking opportunities with a transnational Community of Practice consisted of like-minded professionals.

The MOOC includes the following 4 modules that can be accessed in the following or different order:

  • Fostering Critical Awareness of Gender Stereotypes.
  • Encouraging Empathy and Intersectional Understanding.
  • Supporting Gender-Sensitive Content Creation
  • Networking and advocacy to counter gender bias

How to earn the Certificate of Successful completion?

Upon completion of the course and succeeding in at least 70% of both learning material and of graded activities (self-assessment with quizzes), learners will be able to achieve the Certificate of Successful Completion.
