Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) in Empowering Youth through Financial Literacy

Content and Structure
Financial literacy is vital to ensure economic access, growth & empowerment. However, it is a field only sometimes provided, especially among the youngest generation. Individuals below 25 years score lowest in OECD reports on financial literacy and lower-income groups, women & less-educated youngsters. The course entitled "Financial literacy - a key for economic growth" is an online course, open to all and delivered through the MOOC platform, structured in 6 main Modules:
- M1. Introduction to Financial Literacy
- M2. Budgeting
- M3. Funding
- M4. Investments
- M5. Taxation
- M6. Entrepreneurship
The course includes educational materials, presentations, additional material, hands-on manuals and self-assessment questions (quizzes). The quizzes (basic knowledge) are mandatory to do, while the practical activities (advanced knowledge) are optional.
Learning Objectives of the Youth Literacy MOOC
- Highlight and provide easy to understand key financial concepts directly needed to raise financial literacy levels in society and favor financially independent and empowered citizens;
- Contribute to increasing the financial literacy of youth workers directly working with disadvantaged youngsters, especially those that do not feel necessarily equipped with the financial knowledge and competences they need to better integrate them in their habitual youth practices and programs;
- Provide a conceptual guide for Youth Workers that work with disadvantaged youth in an easy and clear language ensuring that the concepts are understandable by basic-level education participants;
- Increase social and labor market inclusion and entrepreneurial skills of disadvantaged young people by boosting key & basic financial knowledge.
Who is this course for?
- Students and young people (16 - 25 years old) targeting directly general citizens aiming at increasing their financial literacy through innovative, easily accessible, and easily understandable non-formal education methodologies and practical activities.
- Youth work organizations and youth workers, young people with a particular focus on most disadvantaged young groups, policymakers and financial stakeholders.
How to earn the Certificate of Successful completion?
Upon completion of the course and succeeding in at least 75% of both learning material and of graded activities (self-assessment with quizzes), learners will be able to achieve the Certificate of Successful Completion. Learners who will not be able to pass the success rate will acquire the Certification of Participation. All Certificates will be issued automatically, through the Online Platform, at the end of the course.
