IT devices – Vampire devices power consumption


This activity focuses on providing students with a necessary awarnes about the power consumption of IT devices of their house.

  1. Initially students have to identify a list of IT devices that

    1. are always on
    2. Stay a lot of time in standby mode.

  2. Using the following web site https://www.daftlogic.com/information-appliance-power-consumption.htm or other relative site they should try to calculate the energy consumes the devices of the previous categories.
  3. Using the following web site tool https://www.inchcalculator.com/watts-to-kwh-calculator/ or other similar tools they should calculate the annual power consumption of these devices.
  4. Using the current cost of KWh (for example 0,20 per KWh) according to their electricity bill they should calculate the total annual cost.
  5. Considering their house as an example of the average house, let them try to calculate the power consumption and the cost for their city or country. For example, a small city has 10000 households.
