      • Living beings can affect the physical characteristics of their environment.
      • The food chain. Organisms and populations are dependent on their environmental interactions both with other living things and with nonliving factors, any of which can limit their growth.
      • Humans, and life in general, depend on Earth's soil, which is a renewable source of life only if we manage it consciously.

      • To be able to define the functions of soil
      • To describe the life present in the topsoil
      • To be aware of the link between an healthy soil and the abundance/biodiversity of life
      • To be able to identify the human activities that are bringing soil towards extinction
      • To discuss possible solutions to protect the soil
